So i got a free tank but i don't like the setup its 8' long 2.5' wide and 3' high. What i want to do is buy a 4'x8' and 2x 3'x4'of 5/8 glass so its final size would be 8'x4'x3' all 5/8 glass. The front and back would be tempered as that the old glass is.

Tank 8'x4'x3' all 5/8 mix tempered and non tempered
*euro braced top

my question: Is 5/8 thick enough?
it would be 628 USG

Nice man!!!! You must be excited!

For a cheaper route you could flip it so the foot print would be 8x3 just to mention but 8x4 all glass is amazing!!!

5/8 is absolutely fine with a euro. I would, if it was me, add cleats to the bottom glass. Basically a euro on the floor of the tank.
I would maybe even add a strip from left to right in the center of the bottom glass.

If the bottom is 5/8 tempered you could probably avoid the center strip but I would add it as well.

The center strip will make the bottom glass more rigid. Also I don't know what you are doing for the stand but if wood make sure it's 98 percent flat and the glass sits flat on it with no voids. Stryo will help with any imperfections.

Can't wait to see this get going!!!!
