Hi All,

I have what appears to be an interesting issue with one of my tiger barbs. As of yesterday, he seems to have started "shaking" whenever he wants to move around the tank. He is still eating etc, but you can see that something is wrong with him.

He has also started to stay away from the rest of the shoal, and as a result, the others keep coming over to see what is going on. They don't fight or anything, they must just be curious. Oringinally I thought it could be because he is being bullied by the others, but I don't think that is the case now.

Could it be swim bladder related? Has anyone else seen/heard of anything like this before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys :)

Describe the shaking as well as you can. Is it wiggling back and forth? Twitching its fins? Wobbling up and down? Which part of the fish moves the most when it shakes; head, tail, top or bottom?

Fish wiggle when they spawn, so I'm wondering if your barb is getting up next to any other barbs and wiggling by its side.

Cheers for the quick reply :)

When he shakes, he uses his head and tail to do so. he usually goes from left to right at a moderate speed, nothing quick etc. He isn't wobbling up and down either. It's hard to describe, but sometimes it looks like he could be trying to shake something off, which correct me if i am wrong, could suggest a parasite of some sort?

There is the occasional twitching of fins, when he isn't shaking, but more shaking than anything.

When he is shaking he doesn't go near any of the other barbs. I thought it could have been some sort of behaviour in the first instance

I have same situation right now.. do you know why??
