The tip of my baby corn snake's tail is black, I guess the shed skins have compiled there. I have heard to soak it, but I'd appreciate it if the pros coudl tell me exactly how to do this; how warm should the water be, how deep, and what container and how long? Thanks very much, I just don't want to harm my corn snake while helping him.

pic please, sometimes you get exposed bone, otherwise just luke warm water, just an inch of it in a plastic or whatever tub you got.Keep away from drains.Let it soak either with you still holding it or without for a few minutes and then rub it towards the base of the tail like you rub dead skin off after a sunburn. You dont want to rub your snake too hard, lol.

how old is this snake now,or how long have you had it?Also, how often have you been feeding it?

if its black it sounds like the tip is already dead. the skin that didnt come off with the shed dried and constricted the blood flow at the tip. id take it to a vet and have them cut it off and apply antibiotics. your snake will be fine. in the future, i would increase humidity during sheds. or supply your snake with a humid hiding spot.

vets probably gonna be expensive. you could do it yourself too..........have someone help you to hold the snake......sharp knife......neosporin. you get the idea. try the soaking thing first if you want... but black means dead to me.

No.

Do not cut it off with out taking it to the vet.

Okay, I'll get pics up tommorow. I feed him a frozen pinkie mouse every week, and the humidity is usually between 40-50. I try keeping it up by spraying the tank with water.
