Long story short made a rookie mistake and forgot to clean my filter during regular maintenance and shot disgusting water into the 30 gallon tank. Cleaned it again after and added an extra sponge filter just to be safe but the next day my flowerhorn had a strange gash behind it’s gills. Assuming it’s some sort of parasite like HITH any help would be great. Did a 50% water change when I saw it on Monday but no improvement... guy at the lfs said it didn’t look like anything but he must not be seeing what I am.

Hi mate. Great looking FH you have there. It looks very similar to an impact wound my FH picked up when I built some new caves he didn't quite get used to before being a bit too excitable. I fully agree with you and not your LFS I can certainly ly see something there. I would recommend beginning lightly with this as it's a tricky one to say right now. Maybe consider a aloe vera or a tea tree based treatment just designed to soothe the skin and promote healing. Try api melofix if it's available for you locally. I advise keeping a picture diary of the would. One pic at breakfast and one pic on the evening so you have solid ground of "getting better" keep me updated I'll try help where I can :) happy NY

I do have one jagged rock I think I’m going to take that out might have just flashed against it when the water got cloudy and gross?

Would keep the water clean and add some salt 1 tsp per g. Looks like it scraped up against the decor. Consider removing the rock till this clears up.

It's an odd looking bump this but I'm fairly confident it's just an impact wound so far. Exactly the same place mine had his, and same colours following it

Update: looking a lot better but still pretty raw looking. Ive been using primafix and seemed to help the white cottony stuff and less inflamed.
