I just read Kevin’s post and am devastated. I have been buying cichlids from Kevin and before that Jeff for many years, and it is sad to lose a great quality supplier to the industry and hobby.

It has seemed like the popularity of the hobby is shrinking and losing great suppliers like COTA and TUIC will only hurt it more.

I wanted to thank Kevin and TUIC for all of the quality of their service and product! I wish him the best.

Where is this post? I am not seeing it. If so this is a sad day indeed.

Dear TUIC patrons,

Today I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your incredible 30 years of continuous patronage to Tangled Up in Cichlids. Your loyalty and support have been the cornerstone of this business. TUIC is truly honored to have been a part of your life for such a significant period and to have introduced you to dozens of new species over the years. Many are still found in the hobby today! Over the past three decades, TUIC has witnessed your unwavering trust in our service. This trust is what fueled our deep passion for consistently delivering the most professional, highest-quality, and exceptional customer service to TUIC customers worldwide.

It is with a heartfelt thank you that I also announce that effective today, February 8, 2025, Tangled Up in Cichlids will cease all retail operations. All livestock has been removed from the website and will no longer be available for ordering. The TUIC Instagram page will remain online indefinitely for photographic species identification and detail information however; the TUIC Facebook page will be closed. TUIC is honored to have been a part of your community and to serve you for so many years. Thank you!

With sincere appreciation,

Kevin Cumberton

Tangled Up in Cichlids”

His list over the last 2 months kind hinted at this.
He drove up to MA for a club auction and I’ve been kicking myself for being a time optimist and not making it in time to meet him in person.
Hopefully, demand for our beloved species comes back with scarcity and someone will fill this niche.

I truly hope Kevin came out ahead and didn’t have to bow out to a loss.

Great guy, great guy before him.

If you click on TUIC web site, the announcement that they are closing up shop, is today.
A sad end to an era.
Agreed I feel like the hobby for big central and south American cichlids has become dwindled I’m sure their will always be a few dedicated hobbyists out their but the trend for now seems to be smaller fish and smaller tanks but who knows maybe I’m wrong I think this hobby can be very cost prohibitive and cumbersome to manage which causes alot of people to leave or give up only the true crazies stay in for life
