i think i have remembered hearing that uarus would probably pick on the discus..... but my question is should i try them together? wait i'm getting ahead of myself

i'm thinking of combining my discus tank with my SA cichlid tank (so that i can try a tropical pond for my soon to be larger fish, and if that doesnt work, i will do a koi pond:headbang2:D).... my main concern is putting my 3 4" discus with my 6" uaru......

should should i put the discus in the tank with the uaru? and if i see my uaru excessivly picking on the discus i can put a divider in the tank.

this may sound like i'm saying that i will do it, but i want to see what you all have to say:):D

thanks,
eric

It's playing Russian roullette with your discus to try. Uarus are pretty damn mellow but Discus are particulaly flakey about being house with other fish , and even themselves sometimes. I have heard of people doing it but I wouldn't personaly try it .

i've seen it at my LFS in a 150g tank. the uaru were smaller than the discus but the discus looked stressed

Discus will stress with just about any tank mate in similar size, and Uaru outgrow discus by far - males will become aggressive with age. So that's a big no - honestly discus are best suited in a species only tank, perhaps with schooling fish such as cardinal tetra or rummynose...

thanks, right now i have them with rummys

another question (i'm not gonna do this but thought i'd ask)

i've heard of people doing discus and silver/black aros and or pbass

so would that be ok even though discus should be in peaceful setups?

Keep your discus with other discus. Uaru's get large, I have one over 10 inches. They also are much thicker and eat a ton more then discus and are not as peaceful as made out to be. If they have a chance to bully other fish they will. There is not anything much worse that I could think of to keep with discus then a peacock bass. They get huge, are aggressive, extremely food aggressive, and would eventually eat the discus is they don't just kill them first out of aggression or water pollution. Arrows can work if the tank is huge. The problem with them is the constant swimming stressing your discus and the massive bioload they put on the tank. A 125g is not big enough for an arrow anyway.

My first question is why do you have 3 discus? They need to be kept in groups of 5 or more to keep one from being picked on. Plus a 4 inch discus should still be growing and will still need large water changes at least twice a week of the 50% varaity. Any large fish keep with them will greatly increase the waste even if they get a long and will end up stunting your fish. People that are successfully keeping arrows with discus have large tanks with auto water change systems that can do daily %30-%50 changes. Adding a large predator to a discus tank is almost always going to fail.

thanks,,, well kinda.......... about the aros and pbass im just curious as to if they can be kept with discus because i have seen/heard people on here doing those combos..... i'm not going to do those combos i was just curious..

and i have three discus because i had 5, two died, i said ok i'm sure it was just the fish but decided not to get anymore so now i have a trio........ trios going great no picking (even though one discus is larger than the other two but not by much) and they love to hang around each other... three is just my lucky number with discus........

there has been no deaths of discus for 3 months so i'm hoping these trio really is lucky:)
