I currently have in my 125:

3 Rainbow Cichlid 2"
1 Severum 2"
2 hoplo catfish 3"
1 Pictus 4.5"
1 Senegal Bichir 5"
1 Leopard Bush fish 4"
1 peacock eel 5"
1 African Knife 3.5"

I was wondering how long couple 2" Uaru could live in here. I am thining of doing a planted tank with the rainbow cichlids, bush fish, african knife etc. Or upgrading tank size/ How long would they work in this current setup? How big would I have to go to house all of these 180 gal? Also are silk plants safe?

I'm not going to put the uaru in with live plants. I asked if silk plants are safe. I'm thinking of some of the others such as the knife and rainbow cichlids for planted tank.

if the 125 is a 6ft tank like i think then they will be fine for life, they hit 10-12".
they even have a bash at silk plants, my silk plants had bits missing. they like to graze so its a good idea to get live plants that are cheap and grow fast, i used elodea densa but something like salviana or duckweed (floating) should do as well.
you will need to restock the plants because they cant keep up with the uaru but if you put enough in you give the plants a chance and they last much longer.

at 2" i would be concerned with the larger pictus, bichir or eel eating or trying to eat the uaru and also keep an eye on the severum and rainbows for bullying as they are established and can be a bit nippy.

The bichir and the pictus have been in there with a hoplo 1.5"and 1.25" sajica with no issue. The severum and rainbows are extremely sweet fish at least for now. The bush fish is the mean one. I'm more concerned with crowding. Whats the growth rate like?

cichlids tend to be all sweet and innocent until a new cichlid is introduced. established cichlids can be a nightmare to add more cichlids to, especially ones as shy as young uaru.

they grow fairly fast about an inch per month until about 5-6" then it slows quite a bit or at least mine slowed down.

as for the chocolate im unsure, i know they are one of the few gentle giants of the cichlids family but as juveniles im unsure.

uaru are very gentle fish and wouldn't bother anyone else. i'd worry about the severum. they can be aggressive with fish of a similar body shape. uaru have a pretty normal growth rate for SA cichlids. they do like to be in groups so i think to have some happy fish you would need 4 uaru. what kind of filtration do you have? if you've got a good bit of filtration on the tank you'll be absolutely fine

id choose the uaru over the chocolate cichlid though
