Thank you, its one of them subjects with a lot of myths surrounding it so i hope it helps out a few people.
I agree. I constantly test my ph in tap water and tank when testing the nitrates. I noticed my tap water really fluctuates.
What is your opinion on water conditioners? Many people say they don't use them, but I feel like I need to. I have city water, and often get notices on chlorine increases. It's so bad at times it smells like pool water lol.

I use seachem Safe or Prime. In your case it sounds like it would be a good idea for you to use it too. Drain the tank to the desired level add enough Prime to cover the total volume of the tank and then refill. I never had an issue.
