Hi mfk I bought a breeding pair of umbees everything was fine for about 2 weeks than the male started beating her up real bad. So I put up a divider and seperated them for about 2 days then took the divider out and male started beating on female again so now they are divided again. Any suggestions. Tank size 180 gallon and temp is at 76. Note I did raise temp to 82 when he started to beat on her I raise temp hoping to get them to spawn temp is back at 76 now.

What is the size of the fish? That in it's self could make a big difference. Also do you have hiding places as well? Pic's would help too.

Sometimes when breeding pairs are relocated and their surroundings change. It will cause problems adapting to that change. Good thing you're adding hiding places in the tank. If those hiding places don't work i would suggest a divider then maybe a hole big enough for her to go through to see if he accepts her that way. If they have a history then in time they will be fine.
