so i picked up three of these guys and stuck them in my 75gal till they grow large enouogh to add into my 130g (there would likely be lunch right now)

right now there about 3" tops ! and ive had em for month now or so, one is a bit bigger then the other 2 all though they arent growing as fast as i thought or hoped lol... what is the growth rate with these guys ? im feeding them hagen cichlid flake food as well as some NLS 4.5mm floating pellets and the odd time some frozen bloodworms or frozen brine shrimp which im all out of now lol...i want them to be between 4-6" before adding them in my tank if possible all though i do have some 3" guys in there already... but the haps may not get the amount of food they need to grow as the other fish are predator's in the tank, and they would likely have to fight for there food or at leats not be a wuss to eat near bigger fish lol,

Growth rate depends on tank size, water parameters, temperature, and feeding. I heard males grow faster than females, don't hold it to me though. Just keep water warm and don't overfeed.they should get to 6 inches in no time

Tank is set at 80-81deg and feeding NLS 4.5mm morning at supper time, water parametres are within reason...

Tank size is a 75g at the moment, but have 130g tank I'm waiting to add em in

They should be ready to move to your 130 in a year. I have a few 10 to 12 inches, probably took them about 2 years to get to full size. They are voracious eaters and should be fine in a community tank. Make sure you don't have any female or the males will fight each other to death. I lost one of my 10 inches to the alpha male because of this.

Ya it hard to tell which is M or F right now as there is no colouration showing yet, all though one has a slight blue in his top fin that one is the one growing quicker then other's...

How long till they mature ? Like when I should start watching for aggression towards one another, I've heard once they become 10"+ they start to fill out quite thick like 1" thick

And I read about how the bury in sand to hide for unsuspecting little fish, that would be awesome to see in my tank lol

Males would be bigger and their spots would go away once they mature, also the bluish hue would be very apparent on the head, I'm pretty sure you will see the difference. I did not see much aggression until after they got to about 8 to 10 inches. And yes they grow real thick if you feed them well.

The burying part I don't think Venustus does that... You're probably referring to a Livingstonii which is also an awesome Hap. I have a 10 incher in my tank and he's a mean looking fish, one of my favs. But I have never seen them bury themselves, I read somewhere this is unlikely in a tank setting.

You can check out my past posts for pics of my venustus, livingstonii and other African cichlids.

They grow very fast. I purchased mine about 1 1/2" and about 6 months he's about 6". Venustus are fairly aggressive and are predatory in nature, so I wouldn't hesitate to put them in your main tank that houses predators. I would say you could easily put them in the main tank once they grow another inch or so.

ya im thinking once they get around 4" or so i will likely add them into the main tank, just right now there tiny enough to get ate likely.... just a tad on the small size, they also may hit a growth spurt once in the big main tank as well, one is growing much faster then the other two which are growing at the same rate roughly lol ...

They grow to 5-6" fairly quickly. I had a male for about 2 years, he grew to about 10". I wouldn't worry about him with other cichlids, they can hold their own as long as they're not super outsized.
