So my girlfriend's dad has been keeping a flowerhorn of some sort for about 2-3 years. (not a FH expert). When I would come over I would see it just resting on it's stomache and it would swim up whenever it ate. The filtration and water parameter's were rather poor i must say. I did whatever I could do to help it everytime I came over. (water changes, changing filter cartridge, bought a sponge filter.) And now recently for the past 6 days, it has been lying on its side. I figured it could've been a swim bladder disease but now I am doubting it. So I got his permission to take it home to do whatever I can do to help it. It has been lying on its side in my 20g hospital tank for the time I brought it home. I did a 10% water change once I put it in and I added a little salt. When it pooped i noticed it was not as smooth as regular fish. It was kind of clearish and yellow and it looked very rough. As of now, It has trouble staying upright and is just lying down. Everyday it gets darker and it has stopped eating for the past 2 days. Fin rot is evident along with HITH. Is there anything I can do to help it? Is it SBD? Is it Hexamita? Is there hope for this FH? (Note: My girlfriend's dad suffered a stroke a about a year ago so his motor skills are rather weak so he is unable to do adequate water changes and put full care for the FH.)

This is what I have available for the hospital tank. I have a heater set at 85 degrees, a sponge filter, and a mini canister filter. I have aquarium salt, epsom salt, melafix, formalin 3, and Jungle brand Hole-N-Head treatment powder.

Can you get pictures?

Oh man, that HITH is BADDDDD....

I don't know what to suggest really... just salt with higher temp..

I hope it turns out for the best.. :(

86 degrees, aquarium salt. Goodluck

The thing with fish is that the disease could really be anything.. It's hard to pin point one thing, it could even be something unknown to fishkeepers. I'd suggest add salt and boost the temp a few degrees. Then do water changes every 2 or 3 days.

Thanks guys. What should or can I do about the fin rot? Seems to get worse over time...
