I'm getting ready to build a ply sump and I really don't wan to order any sealer to do it. My thought is to fiber glass the box then waterproof it with dry lock that way I can get it all from my local lowes and only cost about $65.. Will this work? I know ppl seal up their foam projects with drylock so my thought is that this will work. Any one have any opinions? Also will silicone make a nice bond with drylock, if I wanted to put a viewing window in or something

Thanks. But I'm trying to get something local that will work it's kind of an experiment for future builds also.. Has nobody in here ever sealed a tank with drylock? If it works it would be a great product to usebecause you could tint it to witchever color you wanted
People have tried drylock tanks on here none that i read worked. no one that i know of fiberglassed first then with dry lock. don't know how well silicone would bond to it as the stuff i had was gritty
i use zavlar a liquid rubber for my build got it at home hardware but there is something like this people have used state side you should be able to order it locally and its around 40$ a gallon.
if you use the right kind of resin when you fiberglass you won't need to do anything more.

i got the poly based fiberglass thats why i need to seal the top coat.. if i would have gotten epoxy based fg then i wouldnt need a top coat... but i just found about a gallon of zavlar i had left over from my 320 build lol.... still was thinking about the drylock just for a good sealer to find locally... i wish i lived in canada and had zavlar at the local hardware store lol
a few years ago i did a 180G sealed w/ drylok. only had it up a year before a move forced the sale but didn't notice any problems. silicone held just fine also
Isn't drylock made to be used on concrete? I thought it had to have something porous to stick to?
From what I know it is intended for concrete, but it does indeed stick to wood(not sure about poly/fiberglass though). In addition to the experience w/the 180G, I also have had a 75G tank w/a cracked side panel for the last two years. I cut a 3/4" panel of ply and coated it on both sides w/the drylok then siliconed it internally. It's been submerged for the majority of this last two years and I haven't noticed any peeling of the drylok or leaks of any sort.sashimimaster;4798808; said:
