Now That I know roughly how old and sex of my Jack Dempsey, When do JD start breeding?
My jack is roughly 3-4 month old, Male.
Thank you for all your help,
Stephen

I've been shocked at how early they can breed. I've had mine breed as early as 3 months. At that stage, they were about 2 inches.

I guess my Jack is shy, or can also be big for his age I'm not 100% positive of how old he is.
Thank you,
Stephen

Hello,

this is week 5 no fry. I am trying to breed a convict with Jack Dempsey.

Convict is always in the log and rarely comes out, when she does Jack chases her back. is this normal? saw them fighting a few times since I got Jack, Jack always back down. Today Jack and Con were outside swimming near each other for a few minutes.

Thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving.
Stephen

Convict with a JD? I don't think I've ever heard of that happening. I'll have to defer to the others on this forum.

From what I have read, they reach sexual maturity at 6 months of age. Thats what the internet says so take it with a grain of salt I guess. I have my own JD breeding project going on as well, no luck so far but they just hit the 6 months of age mark so we will see.

They do all the things a mated pair do, flashing chasing each other and all that just no eggs yet.
