Clean water, and warm temps would be the best starting point to prevent any disease. Some of the common diseases for RTC would be Fin and tail rot-You'll notice it when the whiskers(barbells) start to erode, next will go the fins. If they rot far enough they will never grow back, but in young individuals they usually will. Stress and high ammonia or nitrates will cause most of these diseases. Another one would be gill curl. It is when the actual gill covering starts to curl eigher inward or outward. Many RTCs get this, and it is undetermined weather it is caused by poor water quality, stress, or bad ph levels. Other than that, a common, and very unoticible one would be brown blood disease. That is when the levels of nitrates are so high that the fish' gills cannot asorb oxygen properly. This will lead to labored breathing, loss of appetite, and eventually death if left untreated. Simple cure for most is making sure your catfish is in a large enough environment with a large enough biofilter to handle it's waste. Weekly water changes of 25-%40 will help also. If you have the resources set up an automatic water changer. That coupled with weekly or biweekly water changes will help alot. Not sure if there is much more I can add other than ICH, but that can be cured with high temps and time.
