i am geting 4 to 6 frontosa and i was wondering what african cichlids can go with the. they are going into a 4ft tank

I've seen them with arowanas and green Texas cichlids they get along fine but some fishes tend to be more aggressive towards each other for their own particular reason.

Im gonna second the calvus vote, but I think the best tankmate for a front is a front. The best house kept fish tank I have ever seen is a group of 6 moba frontosas. I knew that if there were tankmates in there other than fronts, it wouldn't be as striking.

Thats my dos centavos, two cents

Anyway what variants of fronts are you gonna get?

I keep my frontosa's with a some Lake Malawi haps (unconventional mix).

I also agree that frontosa's are perhaps the best tank mates for frontosas. In many instances the tank mates will either have to be fair-sized fish (when full grown) or equipped with some sort of anatomical defense (as is the the case with altolamprologus sp. from my understanding) to avoid being eaten later on when your frontosa's put on some size.

By the way, your colony of fronts will eventually require a tank at least 6ft in length.

I second the 6 footer and Comps./Calvus. Any fish unable to fit in the mouth of the Fronts could work. Look into less boisterous, calm, fish. And by any fish, I mean Tangs. of course.

Oddly enough I know a few people that keep some of the larger cyprichromis species with fronts. Also some of the larger central american livebearers, like sailfin molly.I have blue flash cyps and synodontis petricola with mine. You have to be prepared to lose a few cyps though.

i wouldnt mix frontosas with any other fish than frontosas or theyll be scared , i think a pleco with a group of fronts is rally cool i like to see my fronts only! theres no other fish allowed in my 125. f

Cyprichromis are the natural food for fronts in the lake, so fronts and cyps will be fine together. You'll lose some cyps though for sure :).

I don't know about you guys, but around my area some cyps cost more than burundis, Unless they are the same size or cyps are bigger, I wouldn't take the chance. I am pretty sure though that the front would like that sardine taste, compared to feeders.
