Hi

I just came into a free 75 gallon All Glass tank. Unfortunatly it didn't come with any lighting, and I am confused about what hood to actually get that will fit.

It does have 2 glass tops that fit in the tank bracing along the edges and center bracing. Should I just get two small strip lights and put it on top of the glass, or is there a full hood that will cover the entire tank.

I went to the Aqueon website and did a google search, but I am still not sure.

On the bottom of your tank, there should be a manufacturer sticker on there. Look at it, copy down the information from it, take it to your lfs and ask them if there was a specific lighting system made spacifically for that type and size of tank. If they can find it in their catalogs, you might be able to order you one from the manufacturer. If they cannot find it in their catalogs, check with Dr.'s Foster and Smith Aquaria.com to see if they have one that will fit your tank. It might be worth looking into at any rate.

Another thing you might try doing is to build your own. Many MFK members have done this with much success. I guess it depends on how resourceful your are and how bad you want the lighting for your tank.
Good luck with your endeavor.

Usually All-Glass (as well as Perfecto and several companies) produce standard sizes.

If I'm not mistaken the 75Gallon from All-Glass is a 48x18. Your LFS should have at least two types of standard hoods for that size.

1. Glass Hood (possibly with a light combo)
2. Hard Plastic Hood/Light Combo.

Sounds like you have the glass top already and just need the Ballast/light option that sits on top (or possibly clips in??).

of course there's several more expensive lighting options available that can adjust to a tanks dimensions but the basics are generally what everyone gets.
