This fish was sold to me as a red Texas but is starting to look more like it is heavily influenced by some Trimac genetics. He has a darkish red collar around his throat (not as pronounced or bright as a true Trimac), has the spots of a Trimac with the blue scales surrounding and in them, and has the golden color of a trimac. The only thing is he’s missing the spot behind his gill plate and doesn’t have the same jaw shape, general body shape, and tail size/ markings of a pure trimac. I think he’s mixed w a barred Midas because when he gets fired up the bars are very pronounced. The bar pattern is almost identical but I’ve also seen pictures of juvenile trimacs with the same bar pattern… honestly don’t know what he is or what he’s mixed with

I agree about looking like a non-identifiable hybrid.
Looks like someones attempt at making a FH.
Below is a true trimaculatus pair preparing to spawn.
The Tri in trimaculatus refers to 3 spots

Ok cool thank you so much! Because yeah I was under the impression that a red Texas was a carpintis crossed w either a Midas or a red devil and he doesn’t seem to resemble any kind of red Texas I’ve seen anywhere online or in person
