What kind of Severum is this? It is labeled Orange Shoulder Severum. Is it a true Heros Severus, or a color morph of Heros Efasciatus?
Thanks!

It is not Heros severus, the mouthbrooding sev. It is very likely an Orange Shouldered Severum. The amount of orange can range from pretty much "zero" to a substantial amount. All of mine have a very blueish head color. I have a couple of Orange Shoulders that look just like your pic, and then I have very colorful strains as well. I believe they are a color morph (natural) of Heros efasciatus (Green Severum). The first image is 'severus' (male), the second and third, 'Orange Shouldered'.

When you say Green Severum you mean Heros Efasciatus? I don't know though, I am wondering if it is the original, or true Severum, Heros Severus, because doesn't it look a lot like this fish?

How do you tell the difference between Heros Severus and the other more common Severums? What species is the Orange Shoulder Severum? Sorry, I am a little confused by the classification of all the different "Severums" and what species they all actually are!

The fish in that picture has 9 bars, while true orange shoulder or "rotkeil" severums only have 8. I do see a hint of red starting between the gill and the pectoral fin so it may be a rotkeil x green.

Green severum is the common name for Heros efasciatus. The fish in your picture would most likely be classified as H. efasciatus but I do see the red coloration, so I'm curious if it's a cross.

True Heros severus and Heros sp. Atabapo are both mouthbrooders and look basically identical. They are primarily brown/olive colored with reddish-orange horizontal stripes across the flank and black freckles on the gills. This makes them easily distinguishable from all other severums because they do not have red dots or striations on the face and nose, and to my knowledge no other severum has orange horizontal patterning.
