What should i use to coat bamboo sticks?

Hello,
Fish enthusiast.I wanted to ask people with diy project Experience .I am planning on buying some cured bamboo stick and making into a background for my tank.people say i should dip the bamboo in polyeuthane with no additives.does any one know, if this is true and safe for aquarium use.If so where can purchse some and what brand is best to use?

you can try epoxy resin, if you cure it right it will be a coat of plastic over it. and its only $30 for a pint in cali. i personally think its the best way to go.

its kind of tricky to find. majority of the hardware stores sell West Systems which is said to be the best and the most expensive. i think the generic brand can be just as good. if your lucky enough to live by the beach, look for boat repair companies.
ebay has some pints for sale too.
