What kind of diet would you feed to blue gill? Right now they are eating mostly night crawlers but they will be hard to find soon. They love feeder fish but I'm a little scared of disese. I haven't been able to get them to eat anything else. I had them for about 3 months now. Any help would be appreciated!

Try starving them for a couple days and start with beefheart or brine.

I used to have them in my pond with kois and they just ate kooi pellets.

How long can you starve them? I tried this and they take in just about anything I give them but spit it right back out. The longest they've gone without food is three days. Can I go longer without too much trouble? I haven't tried beefheart yet do you just cut it into small peices?

Crickets, blood worms, brine shrimp, etc. If you want to continue with feeders, get 3 or 4 big female guppies and one male, and just feed the fry to 'em. Try to time your purchases so you get a batch every week or so...

they could go a month with no food with NO ill effects. starve them to the point that they are actually hungry. they are cold blooded animals and they dont have to eat to keep their body temperature up like warm blooded animals do. starve them and then try them on pellets. dont go with the beefheart till you get them eating what you want the staple of their diet to be. after they take to pellets try them on any other sorts of food in the same manner till they learn to recognize them as food

Yeah Jen, they will eat almost anything, if you get them eating crickets drop in a few pellets with a few crickets and often once they are in the feeding "mode" they will make the switch. You can also get earthworms online, one of our sellers is McGavin's wormfarm, check the Buy+Sell.
