I've been doing a ton of research on Bichir, since they were recommended to me as a good starter oddball fish for when I get my tank. Right now I'm looking at either a 75 gallon or a 100 gallon. I came across this picture online, and I can't figure out what type of Bichir it is. I have a really hard time differentiating between Delhezi Bichir and Endlicheri Bichir.

It's so beautiful! I love the almost white color coupled with the black stripes. Is this a color mutation? It seems like most Bichir I've seen in pictures are a greenish/brown color. Right now I'm looking at Senegal, Delhezi, and Endlicheri Bichir. I plan on doing at least another year's worth of research before deciding. Would any of these three get too big to live comfortably in a 75 or 100 gallon tank with no other fish? Also, are there any major personality/temperamental differences between the three? What about differences between male and female?

The bichir you pictured is a delhezi bichir and it will do fine for life in a 75 or a 100 although bigger is always better. Senegals along with quite a few other bichirs will also do fine in a 75 but an endlicheri will not as they can reach sizes of near 24 " and would need a 4 x 2 (120 gallons) minimum. In fact i would not recommend any lower jaws in a 100 for life. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Thank you! I guess I'll cross the Endlicheri off my list, I wouldn't want to stuff him in a tank too small and have him be uncomfortable. Now I'll have to decide between Senegal and Delhezi :D

You could go with any of the Palmas complex (polli, buettokoferri, palmas palmas) also, they would be okay in a 75 for life. Here is my polli (sold him) and buettokoferri aka gold dust

Also I agree w/ that being a delhezi. The lower jaw of an endlicheri is going to extend past the upper jaw, and delhezi vice versa

I agree with everything said. The difference between the sexes is the anal fin a male will have a bulky anal find where a female with have a smaller slimmer anal fin. I am on the phone right now and can't post any pics I'll try to when I get home or someone else could.
