Hello MFK!
I've had this cichlid in a tank for about 18 months maybe. And when I bought him he wasn't the prettiest but before long he was one of the best/favorite fish I've ever had. I was under the impression that he was a sinspilum but I thought I would ask you all here so that I know for sure! Thank you!

Guttalatus perhaps? Not 100% sure but keep growin him out and it’ll be more clear what he species he is. But a beauty none the less. Best thing about vieja imo is that they keep getting better with age. Takes a long time for the colors to come out but so worth the wait.

Here is a pic of my guttalatum at a similar size to comparegutta.JPG
I'm thinking not guttalatum, looks more like synspilum/melanurum or maybe even hartwegi to me. Possibly a hybrid of some sort, hard to tell from looking at it.
nice looking fish

Looks like hartwegi to me.
Could do with a side on view to see if the mouth has the hartwegi over bite.

Yes thank you. They're definitely a great genus of fish! And I see some similarity there too!
