I don't know if anybody posted this already, but I've been really wondering the difference between all L27's - gold line, thunder line, xingu, etc. They all look the same to me but all differ in price. Any insight is helpful. Thanks.

Jackson gave me this link before which helped a lot. I am no expert, people like Jackson, David R, Lmt6600, and Matubula are much more knowledgeable and I am sure they will address any specific questions you have.

Think about it this way... to many, most arowanas looks the same, but silver and black fetch very different prices, as well as different varieties of Red and Gold arowanas. The difference in grades of red arowana can mean more than 500% difference in pricing. To most people that are not into arowanas, they can't tell the difference so they can't justify the difference in price.

Forget about the different names, just take a look at this two picture and tell me which will you pay more for.

Now, put into consideration of supply and demand. You can buy pleco a pretty much year round. Pleco b comes along once every few years, (there will be at least one available soon! not mine) How much more do you think b will cost more than a?

Some will like a better, come will like b better.

Thanks for the info. But it's still funny to me that the demand of one compared to the other would be greater when they both look nearly identical. Maybe Im still novice at plecos. Lol

I would buy A for the price of B any day! Ha ha ha. As u compare pics of l27s from different river system, you will see the differences, color, pattern, base color, mouth, shape etc, I used to be the same, couldn't tell differences...

Unless it's because I'm looking at this through the app you have the pictures mixed up.

I see your goldline thunder/teles pires as fish "A" and your xingu as fish "B"
"A" is about 8x the price of a xingu of course size matters when comparing prices too probably won't see one for less than $450

A is the most expensive 27 out there

IME they're the weirdest behaving 27's too. I've never seen a panaque sift sand before these guys are pretty good at it.

OP~

Search through pics eventually you'll get a gang of telling the difference between them. The link mrtoofay provided is great for this.

So "A" would be a thunderline? and "B" would be a Xingu? Anybody got a pic of a "goldline"? Or any other L27?

"A" is goldline thunder not thunder line
And yes "B" is a xingu

Check the link in this thread lots of pics there

Yes, they are different, just study the pattern and you will realize it. I think its easier to classify them by the collection river system ie xingu, tocantins, Tapajos, teles pires, Araguaia.

So far I have xingu, tocantins, Tapajos, hope to get teles pires in the future but too pricey atm, and Araguaia too.

The pics on top are of xingu and teles pires.
Some vendors market their royals as goldline, goldline thunder, platinum etc.. Again, im more interested on the collection site
