Yes there are the same. It's as you have mentioned already, mountain lion, cougar, Florida panther still the same specie just different names for different regions. Lol personally would love to have one of the big cats as a pet at some point but that well probably never happen.
I'd also love to have a red tiger mota at some point too just don't have the space for one atm.

With many cichlids individuals from one river or even a slightly different part of of a river will have color varients.
Could be one part is devoid of plants, or another full of rocky debris , each favoring a certain color as camouflage from predators, etc.
Below a Chuco intermedium I kept from one river.

Now a different variant from another river, same species.

P. motaguense may have the same variations. Collectors often choose to go where colors are known to be the most dramatic.

Thanks for the info. That makes alot of sense @duanes. That was my thought process. I was getting really confused. I'd go to my local pet stores and they're like you mean Motaguense, or the opposite way around. ? The only other thing about the fish that was throwing me for a loop was that some have a slight hump. Which can give them a Dovii look head wise. While my males head is all slope down to the mouth. But I guess that fish to fish.

Just about any dominant male Parachromis (in fact almost any cichlid)will show a hump (not only dovii), subdominant males won't.
Compare the head profile of this male motaguense with the female .

female below

The hump may not compare to those displayed on Amphilophines, but even in other male Parachromis like genera
Compare male Nandopsis haitiensus with female

or Nandopsis tetracanthus

In another ancestral line, compare male Vieja breidhori profile to female

or Herichthys

even Amatitlania cutteri

Very good examples there! Maybe my male is just not mature enough for a hump yet. He is about 8", 9" . I've recently added a female to his tank she is only pushing 4". Hoping she will spark that transformation in him. ?
I was seeing this in other species but I thought maybe that was the difference in the Motaguense, Motaguensis thing. Lol
