When do i feed my convict cichlid fry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Give them a couple of days. Then you can feed them. Mine eat crushed brine shrimp flakes, and microworms. The parents will move them around to get food.

I got my microworm culture off of ebay, But since your's are already hatched, take a pinch of regular flakes. Put it in a sandwich bag, and crush and grind them with your fingers.
sprinkle a little in at a time. it will look like dust, sinking down into the water. Don't worry if you made it fine enough. Convicts are quite hardy.

first bite fry food thatss what i am feeding mine and they just became free swimming a day ago. good luck on your fry they are fun to have around

The fry usually go free-swimming in 4 - 7 days for most Central/South American cichlids. If you don't have things like live baby brine, Hikari First Bites will work. Mine took that better than decapsulated brine shrimp eggs. You can find it at most LFS. My local Petsmart carries it. It's in a small green pouch. I just put a pinch of it in a cup, mix with a little tank water, and blow it into the swarm of fry with a piece of rigid airline tubing.

Never had a problem with fry getting sucked up by the filter they are pretty strong and can swim away from it, so i would not worry about it. To give you an example i tryed to use a gravel vac to get fry out.if.a.tank one time thought i could syphon them into a bucket but they swam right out of the vac.
