X2...Walmart has tilapia in 4lb bags(individually sealed) for $12. I go through about a bag a week. They also have the best price on market shrimp--$3.14 a bag.

Wow, Chris! You're lucky. Here in St. Johns, Az where I live, we have one grocery store (IGA). It really sucks for food prices, especially their Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) Tilapia. They buy their fish by the 10 pound box. An outrageous price of $35.00 per 10 pound box. Can you believe that? $3.50/pound. Safeway in Springerville, Az (30 miles southeast of St. Johns) isn't much better at $3.39/pound for IQF Tilapia. I think if I'm going to be able to feast on a fillet or two in the future, I'd be better off catching my own.

Catfish isn't much better at either store, too. $3.99/ pound. Cod goes for $17.00/pound. Salmon Fillets go for $25.00/pound for Alaskan King Salmon. Why do they have to get it so far from home and then have to have it shipped in? Does common sense ever get figured into these types of issues?

Walmart here also, but only $10 a lbs. Its probably cheaper @ CostCo or Sams clubs.

I go to my local Asian market .. For fresh market shrimp and buy like 3-4 whole tilapia and just have them fillet it... Fresh and cheap ;)

just remember how these farm raised tilapia from asia are raised. other foods are a must! do a little looking in on farm raised tilapia and all the things they are lacking nutrition wise that they would have in the wild. alot of these fish are full of steriod type drugs and anitbiotics just so they will stay alive long enough to get big enough to sell. just google farm raised tilapia ( and variations of it) and see what comes up.

thats why sometimes paying a little extra per pound are worth it. our rays arent cheap so why cheap out on the food.

X2 jeffers...

I get my Tilapia from walmart as well... used to be 4lbs for 10bucks, but not its 4lbs for 12.00 still not bad
