I set up my neighbors 10g tank yesterday and she has a pair of convicts.
All I want to know is what Fruit/Veggies/Squash I can feed them?
And any other wierd food. Also is chicken meat alright to feed?
Thanks

Oh come on, I know at least 70% of you have had convicts before, and I
know alot of you fed them fruit..

Which fruit are safe and what will kill them?

Well... first off, 10g is too small for a pair of convicts. They should be in at least 20 gallons, preferably 29g or larger.

As far as fruits/veggies go, you could offer zucchini as a treat every once in a while, but good quality pellets should provide the basic diet for the fish. You can supplement the pellets with frozen foods (brine shrimp, cut-up krill, bloodworms). Mammal and chicken meat should be fed very sparingly, because it is not as readily digested and will foul the water pretty quickly. The cons are already in too small of a tank, so I hope your neighbor is educated about monitoring water quality and not overfeeding.

fresh zuchini from the garden; slight blanching if it's that hard, storage zuchini from the store; and I have a free 33 gallon for you if you're near British Columbia!

I'm nowhere near there, and I have access to plenty of tanks.
The 10g is temporary, shes moving in a week and whenever they outgrow that my friend has a spare 30g.

The fish are fine, I know what I'm doing.
I understand how to balance a diet especially to avoid HITH/HLLE so I'll be mixing it up.

Thanks for the answers guys, perfect timing.

The fish are going to be fed whatever worms I find outside, chicken heart, flakes, pellets, snails, beef heart, betta food, maybe chicken meat, and fruit and I'll make sure she keeps it balanced.

Thanks for the help guys.

I don't think it's necessary to feed half of that stuff when you can get good quality dried or frozen foods. My suggestion would be to put them on a staple diet of a good quality pellet and just feed that other stuff occasionally. In your first post you asked what "weird" stuff you could feed them. Why would you want to feed them weird stuff?

I agree with everyone. If you have a good quality pellet you only need to vary their diet a little, I would be careful collecting worms from outside. I only do NLS, some mysis shrimp, worms from my bait shop, wax worms. I wouldn't feed most of the things you said.

Ps everyone that posted are very smart people, I would listen to them.
