A few days ago I put two manzanita branches into my tank, one sandblasted and one regular.
Across the whole sandblasted one and parts of the regular one, a thick white film has been developing.

Is this mold? Any ideas on how best to get rid of it?

I think this is mold, I would get it after I add a new piece of driftwood. Either fish(like a pleco) may eat or it just goes away by itself, it never lasted long in my tank.

Its a natural process when driftwood is added to the aquarium. Agree with Fishnerd360 Fishnerd360 stated about mold not lasting long.
