I have never owned a silver Arowana myself but I recently found out that the Asian species are illegal to own in the U.S. Does anyone happen to know the reason why they are illegal?
Just curious.

I really like your avatar by the way.zerojquan85;3014213; said:The reason is.. back in the 70s, there was a huge exportation of Asian arowana to the US, soon there was a decline in Asian arowana because there was a huge exporation of the fish.... People were paying big money for it that breeding could not even take place... thus resulting all Asian Arowana appearing on the endangered species list... thats why u see weird looking asian arowanas with a missing tail or seimese twin fish, the gene pool of asian arowanas are very limited...
There are certified licensed breeding farms in south east asia, But our Government is not gonna lift the banned anytime soon..... some one in congress is gonna say OHH WE DONT WANT THESE FISH HERE. some bull**** like HR669 right now...
But thats the reason why its illegal.....

Asians are all native to lakes and rivers of Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia.
theres actually several species of Asians.. u have the green, red, xback.. etc.. theres more i just can't name them top of my head..
I know for sure that Red / chilly red are native to Northern Indonesia.. but I think theres a farm in the Philippines too..
Most Asian Arowana breeding farms are in Indonesia and malaysia...
But i know that Japan breeds asian arowanas, same with Hong Kong (only limited) and Parts of China...
