just saved two id sharks from lfs about a foot or so each but one is missing all of its fins except bottom fin and the other is missing all but the bottom and dorsal fin. couldnt really get a clear story but all i kno is some guy didnt want them anymore. they are swimming fine and are very active. will all of their fins possibly grow back or will i end up saving some permanently physically challenged fish? lol

Fins can grow back, but the more that is missing, the less likely the fins will grow back. If they're completely gone, right down to the body, chances are slim. But fins can grow back. Salt and clean water helps.

edit/ this pertains to fresh fin injuries.

yea it all depends on how recent it has been since fins got chewed off and the older the fish it the less likely it is to grow back

they are pretty big so im guessing they are at least a couple years old. not sounding to promising then huh

I have my doubts the caudal fin would ever fix itself as completely as it was before with that extent of damage.

ya i felt pretty bad for them i was hoping i could help them out but maybe i got my hopes up too much. i have had fish that had peices missing out of their fins but never the entire thing. i was looking more closely at the tail fin and they look like they have healed over where the fins come out so its not looking promising. they have little nubs on their front fins behind their gills but they look like they may be growing. i guess only time will tell. thanks everyone
