will this work as a filter media?

I've never heard of anyone using stainless steel pot scrubbies as filter media. But then again why would they when there are more tried and trusted materials out there?

I think most hobbyists go to products are generally sponges, floss, bio balls, ceramic rings, rock, the list goes on.

Why risk it?

Then how is the above different from this one
One is metal… one is plastic… u want the plastic. Used to be very common yrs ago and they were dirt cheap. These days its around the same price as buying regular bio balls in bulk. I would suggest against the metal. They will most likely rust and break down over time

They are different. The one you posted above are metal and could rust while the website says specifically plastic. Also as Esox said above why change something that has already proven to work?
