I saw something on here once about using window tint on back of the tank for a background. I just wondered if anyone has any information on how well it worked. My 75 will be emptied this weekend, and I thought that might be a good time to move it out where I can get to it and put window tint on the back before I set back up. Probably a black tint, but haven't really thought too much about the color yet. I think it would be cheaper than buying a background kit that is probably basically the same thing.

I used black vinyl on the back of mine, works perfect. You can get a 30 yard roll for $22. You can apply I the same way as tint with soapy water to get rid of the bubbles

I simply painted my background and both sides with acrylic black paint and a foam roller. It takes about 3 coats and it'll be pitch black and uniform. My fish love it and their colors come out a lot more not to mention their stress level that went down a good bit as they feel they're safer. Kinda like they were in a cave or something..

As broke as I am this week, that trash bag idea sounds pretty good. I'll probably end up doing that. The plus with the window tint, if I got that, maybe I could get my truck windows done too.

Here's my old 95G with 5% window tint from walmart that I installed myself. Very easy to do and comes off easier than paint. Although you might wanna try a automotive tint shop to get some tint. I'm pretty sure it would be cheaper...........

I tint windows for a living. It will work but why bother. I paint the back of my tanks with latex paint. Blue, black. Whatever color you want. And you can always scrape it off later if you need to. Works great

I didn't think that paint would come off that easily. I thought paint was kind of a permanent change. Then again, when I get the tank set back up, I probably won't change it again anytime soon. I just don't care for the backgrounds that you have to tape on, they always end up coming off eventually. And they don't always look good through the glass.

Well, If you do paint the tank I'd suggest you use Plastidip, it's like a rubber coating that can be peeled off, I used the stuff to paint the bumper on my truck and it holds up really well but can be peeled right off with no damaged to the original surface. http://www.plastidip.com/

I could use of that on my husband's van. The black on his bumper and the trim is all faded to gray. If it's not too expensive the Plastidip sounds like a possibility. Whatever I end up doing, I have to do it this weekend before I refill and start the equipment back up. Some good ideas, just have to see what I can find or what I can afford. No one ever said this hobby was cheap...
