Attention Mods I will be trying to make this a sticky on Information and care for most wolf fish species. Since Wolf fish info seems be a little difficult find this will also list everything you need to know to keep them. These guys are truly one of the most prized Predatory fish in the hobby. Everyone feel free to add a comment and as questions as you wish.

Species Name: Hoplias Malabaricus

Family: Erythrindae

Common Name: Wolf Fish

Origin: South America and some parts of Central America

Max Size: 28" (Unestablished) 20-25" In the wild but usually larger in Aquaria.

Growth Rate: 1" per month depending on how much you feed them.

Minimum Tank Size: 200 Gallons

Temperament: Very Aggressive It is recommended to keep it by itself but in rare occasions they have been kept with predatory fish of the same size.

Temperature: 72-77 degrees

pH: 6.5-8.0

Feeding: Hoplias Malabaricus will eat anything that fits in their mouths so it is relatively easy to get them to try other meaty foods. They are highly carnivorous and will not eat Vegitation such as Algea Wafers, etc

Breeding: Hoplias Malabaricus can be bred in very large aquariums in the 300 to 400 Gallon range and when spawning can produce 10,000 Fry and they must be sorted due to being highly aggressive and will eat fry smaller than themselves, The parents will need to be very similar in size because the larger one will also try to eat the smaller one as well.

I'm sorry, but your information is way off. Are you actually keeping any wolf fish yet? I wouldn't classify Mala as "Very Aggressive It is recommended to keep it by itself but in rare occasions they have been kept with predatory fish of the same size." I've seen Malas that are kept together, or together with other fish. I even see Lacerdae and Aimara that is kept with other fish - not "Super Aggressive MUST be kept by itself" :grinno: And they don't quite grow at the rate of 1" or 1"-2" per month!

I knew it would be pretty bad since this is my first attempt *sigh* I wish wolves werent illegal in Florida...

My Hopli Mala grew faster than 1" per month in the 1st 6mo 4" to 12" then slowed down. I've owned him for a lil' over a year he's 14"+ and 200 gal. is not a good minimum tank size 120 - 4'x2'x2' will easily house these guys for life.
