I have 4 Cardinals and have been wanting to go out and buy 4 more so they're a proper school.

However I've recently seen that someone is giving away 7 blue and red (this is why I'm assuming they're neon tetra) away for free.

Would these two breeds happily school together like my cory's do? (2 bronze, 1 albino, 1 sterbai, 1 tril) or will it only make them unhappy?

If it makes them unhappy I'll buy more Cardinals; I won't have space to have 7 neons AND 4 extra Cardinals.

Oh. I also have 4 female betta. Should they mind the additions to the tanks or should I take them out?

I'm also planning on adding new plants hopefully on the day I add the new fish.

Thanks. :)

I've kept Neons and Cardinals together in the past. Never had any problem with it. and they did school together. not sure about the tank size you have but either fish is happiest in 12+ sized schools, and more the merrier. they may be tiny fish but are pretty tight schoolers and stress easily the smaller the school. I'de consider putting the bettas in another tank for that alone so you can get more neons/cards.

I'de just make sure the fish indeed are neons before getting them. and QTing if possible before putting them with the cards, far more delicate ime then neons are. and can never have to many plants imo in a tank =D

My experience is the same as above. They school together unable to recognize exactly their differences since both look very much alike. Don't forget we also have three different species of rummy-nose tetras that also school together.

Good to hear that. =)

Unfortunately I do not have another tank that is adequate for the girls. So, we'll see how this goes and maybe I'll convince for a larger tank.
