I bought some carbon mixes with Zeolite crystals and I wanted to know if I can use it in my Rena X4? I have 1 spotted gar and 2 Atf's. Is this media o.k for fish? I need to change the carbon in my Rena so I wanted to know if I can fill all 4 cages in the Rena with this media also. Right now its just loaded with carbon and spunges. You think if I do this media it will not have an effect on my Vittatus or gar?

what is your primary bio material??? it wont hurt them but i would fill one or 2 of those baskets with eheim substrate pro or seachem matrix you should have some pure bio material in there too not all carbon

Well I know I have a 20gl sump (if that helps). I do like the eheim substrate. I'll prob buy some this weekend. Thanks Nic

yeah, go with biomedia over zeolite...unless you think you have an ammo problem right now. this stuff is useless as biomedia, and generally not needed if the tank is well established.

on a related note, the ATF/gar combo is not a good one as gars really can't ignore silvery fishes...it may not start right now, but it will eventually and the gar will at some point start shredding the ATFs, if not killing/consuming them--

I agree with Sol, there isn't any need for carbon or zeolite except in an emergency situation, or if you're trying to remove tannins. Don't waste your money.

I thought every filter needed carbon? I didn't know it is just for ammonia problems.
So you guys say just load it up with eheim substrate! Should I put it in all 4 chambers? Lets just say what should I put in the 4 chambers of my RenaX4?

E-Americanus... I know that its a bad mix, but I'm trying to keep a variety of fish together as young fish, hoping to raise them around a lot of fish. I also don't feed them live food (actually once every month-2 months). Its just a lil experiment, but I know when to call it quits and move who I have to move. Thanks for the heads-up:)
