The following are both called by the common name "zigzag" eel:
Macrognathus circumcinctus
Macrognathus pancalus

Consider this question to be for both species since I'm considering getting one or both of them.

I have a few questions:
1.) I want to know if they will eat black khuli loaches.
2.) Do they like the company of their own kind or are they aggressive towards each other?
3.) Will they eat shrimp that are living in the aquarium?

1. No khuli loaches should not get eaten.
2. They tend to get along well. During feeding they may chase each other away from food.
3. Yes they absolutely love to eat live shrimp.

1) I would not trust either species when adult at 7-8” with black Khuli loach or very small fish as they like to eat earth worms and their mouths are deceptively larger than they look.
2) both are quite sociable so in a suitable tank the aggression is minimal but like many fish in too small tank they do fall out.
3) Yes and if they are gonna eat shrimp they will eat khuli’s eventually.

Had never heard the half banded spiny eel or the yellow fin spiny eel referred to as zig zag eel before, so that’s new to me to find Maidenhead aquatics (a local fish store) suggest theywere sometimes known as zig zag too.
zig zag eel most often refers to tyre track eel mastacembelus armatus and larger ones of those will definitely eat your khuli’s.
