I got this new tiger knife fish and its been eating bloodworms and earthworms so far. I want to know more about the species and what else I can feed him. So far he is alone in a 40 gallon tank since he was chasing and biting the fins and barbels off of my cories. I think its Gymnotus Javari and it is currently 10 inches long.

Likely javari. That’s what I’ve seen brought in lately and from your pic. I prefer to keep these kind of knives in black water tanks. They seem to do better. Just IMO. I fed mine, cut up pieces of tilapia and broken piece of mixed pellets. Larger adults were fed ghost shrimp.

how large will javari get?

They get about 4 feet in length



jk 11-18 inches I think

Maybe 8-10. Brought in big sizes but don’t see much growth especially long term.
