Why are there goldfish in that tank?
They are a horrible choice for food...way too fatty
And the water chemistry and temperature for the payara is inappropriate for the goldfish if they are permanent residents.

If you read my post you'll see I just bought the fish last week and the roseys are for him the gold fish are for my larger tat not pictured both payara are new fish and obviously not accustomed to frozen foods. After he puts wieght on maybe the cudas that eat frozen can help influence him.

Yep,I eyeballed it to be in that range.

Definittey not Scomberoides. Easiest way to differentiate Scombs from other Hyrdolycus is the gill spot. Arms and Tats have a slash like mark behind their gills while the Scomb has a round spot.

And Armatus can be differentiated from Tats by white edging on their tail and adipose fin

There are other differences but IMO these are the easiest ways to identify between Hyrdolycus. Here's a pic that shows them side by side which makes the other differences between some Cynodontinae more apparent.

Mines colourful now its settled but when I first got it it wasnt maybe this isn't too settled just yet

Good news is he ate last night for the first time he took down 3 roseys so I think he will be ok.

So the fish is no longer hiding and is eating well today with that said I was able to get a better look at him today and he does have a very slight maroon tint in his tail that obviously the camera isn't showing to well.
