Should I use the fluval 20g c02 kit or something larger like the 88g?

You do not need an adapter for the fluval co2 as you cannot run the air soft cartridges anyways, don't lead people with wrong advice without first hand experience. The cheapest option is the threaded 16 or 25g co2 cylinders for bikes, you can pick the up for around a dollar each. They must be threaded in order to work with I believe 3/8" threaded ends. These are compatible and can be interchanged with the flucal 20g tanks

I do have experience thank ya, you can check numerous forums on the Fluval for clarification; this is the 88g cartridges we're talking about yeah? Cause Fluval have their own thread, it doesn't work with standard 88g for bike pumps etc

And the Fluval 20 kit, is more or less a waste of time; unless you want to constantly be filling up a large plastic container that sits inside your tank. Arguably even DIY co2 would be better. Not to say it doesn't work, I have the Fluval 20g myself

Originally the 20g, but I asked if I should get an 88g instead. Since the 20g is up to 15 gal aquariums, I'd think that I'd have to put it to max, while the 88g has 15 gal as minimum, so I would put it on min.

I was going to change out the diffuser, and add a bubble counter. After doing all that it would still less than half the cost of the 88g kit.

If each one lasts around two weeks then that's around over a years worth.

In terms of the duration of the 16g canister, what are you basing the 14 days on; bubble rate and hours per day wise

If each one lasts around two weeks then that's around over a years worth.

Since it's rated for 15 gal max, I would run it maybe %50-75 all the time.
