It's an incredibly messy and horrible job!

If you're wondering why the blue expanding foam is on one quarter... its partly because I ran out of black expanding pond foam as expected.. and partly because I wanted B1 fire class foam on the hot side. I know a heat pad under glass won't cause any problems... but if I add a ceramic heat bulb one day, that might cause problems if it were too close to the cured foam. So win win and extra safe.

Don't worry - absolutely all of the logs are blocked underneath, and all the way through in fact, with expanding foam. The logs are actually resting on the crossbeam of the structure, that you might be able to spot in earlier pictures... so their gap underneath was smaller than it appears anyway. If that makes sense? Thanks for the heads up though.

Background complete and happy with it. Floor has an aquarium silicone bead all the way around in case of spills. Ready for its glass sliding doors and moving the snake's furnishing / equipment in. So nearly finished!!

FINISHED

I'm happy with it. One lucky corn snake. Upgrading from a 3 x 1.5 x 1 foot vivarium to a 5 x 1.5 x 2 ft (rounded up slightly) viv!

The total cost in materials was more than expected.. £345. But £90 of that was for the background which was not essential! Though it'll insulate the vivarium nicely to keep heat in... and I think it enriches the snake environment a bit.

Tell me what you think.

Just a 6 month update. My build hasn't fallen apart! I've also added some plants and a bit more enrichment from hollowed out (and kiln dried) Silver Birch logs. I had to hollow them out myself, but think they look good.

I made x2 log surrounds for ceramic plant pots, x1 log surround for a water bowl and x1 log hide.

I'm hoping the Monstera spreads nicely up the background in time.

What do you think?
