Hello I live in USDA hardiness zone 9b Texas the average minmum temp is just above or below freezing, I was thinking about building the pond in ground, concrete, against a garage, with the filtration inside, How much supplemental heat should I expect to include to keep Peacock Bass and similar fish, Im planning around 1-2k gallons with concrete surrounding two sides at an obtuese angle.

I am in San Antonio and I have an outdoor above ground pond, it’s 15k gallons, but in the winter I only do about half the water volume so it’s easier to heat. I run a 3 kilowatt koi pond pass through heater with a cover over the pond and it keeps 76 degrees as long as it doesn’t go much below freezing. Does get expensive to heat though. Adds about $300 to my electric bill. You have much smaller area to heat, so shouldn’t be near the same cost to keep the temp up. You definitely want to keep above 72F
