Like the title says, I lost my florida gar today. I got him in july 2019 at about the size of a pencil. I'm not sure what happened to suddenly cause his death.
I fed the tank small chunks of tilapia yesterday, he ate some. That's about the only thing he was eating anymore though. Never fed him live myself. He took to pellets easily enough when I first got him, even though the store that I got him from fed him goldfish.
He used to eat pellets from the bare bottom like a pig, but pretty much stopped when I put garnet in his tank. He never went after floating pellets, even before the sand. He would only ever eat tilapia and even then, a couple pieces and that's it. I would say that stunted his growth. He was in a 225 on a drip water change system.
I gotta say I'm sad tonight. It sucks losing a good fish.
