You should be fine, apparently the size they can get is around 3 feet, if your tank/pond is 4 feet wide then you'll be fine.

I had (2) in my 670 gallon tank until 1 jumped thru the lid and died but 520 gallons is plenty as long as it is at least 3ft wide the only get about 2 to 2 1/2 feet
