So I wa sable to get my hands on this beautiful Giant betta… I went to one of my LFS because I was in the area and was super bored. No plans on getting anything until I walked to the betta area.. I was going to get a giant betta for my 20 Gal since my previous past on but that was going to be later in a few months because I wanted to use the tank as a grow out but I walked across this beautiful pitch black betta and I instantly fell in love with him. I believe he’s a giant super black star tail betta, But I cannot seem to find the perfect name for him. Can anyone send out suggestions?

After 55-ish years in the hobby...I have still never owned a betta! Never cared for the clumsy long fins, awkward swimming, etc...but that is an absolutely gorgeous, dramatic-looking fish! Congrats! :)

Now I've got to do some research on "giant" bettas...

Those jet black ones are always gorgeous!

Lots of wild ones out there look a lot like snakeheads, even a lot of the typical splendens have been bred for shorter fins. Plakat isn’t too far off from wild type in that respect.

They’re pretty fun fishes, my previous giant I had would always attack my hand when I would change the water or when I would feed he would jump out of water xD.

I've admired the plakats for awhile, and often toyed with the idea of getting one; have a friend at work who keeps and breeds plakats only, no other fish of any type.

But in this case, it's the size that is really catching my eye; some of my buddy's fish are in the 4-inch range...:)

I think you've already come up with the perfect name yourself, in the title of your thread....Buddy, for short, or his proper name, Buddy the black Betta, lol.

Lol, I don't name fish...I barely bother learning the names of some of the people at work :)...but I just showed the pic of this fish to my granddaughter and she came up with exactly the same name. :)

Are these the same as Petco's King Bettas as they call them or is a giant betta something different?
