I tend to think of my tanks and sump, as a palludarium, a sort of wall-less ones (at least above the water line)View attachment 1532358View attachment 1532359View attachment 1532360
There's quite the menagerie of critters that occasionally make use of it.

Some get too close for my liking,

Some get too close for their own good.

Some build pods and denude the mangrove.

Yes the one found here, is endemic to the island of Taboga.
And is everywhere there are trees and ground cover after a rain.
Most of the island in uninhabited except a small sliver of land on the lee side.IMG_3443.jpeg
And even though it only has a population of about 500 permanents, the largest animals found here are sloths and ant eaters

There are lots of reptiles, amphibians, and birds

For the most part, the windward side is uninhabitable for any but the most rugged.

Surprised you haven't caught a boa constrictor drinking out of your sump.

Snakes (or any reptiles for that matter) don't last long if they venture too close to the pueblo, high in protein for the poorer locals that make their living fishing.

They sell certain stuff to gringos, and eat the by catch themselves.
The one below fed half dozen gringos

Awesome! The snake in the last pic looks like our American Coral snake.
