It gets big and will skewer any fish it's with. makes a great guard pet and piranha population controller! It is mostly ichthyophagous (it eats fish for a living) I know we can get them out of northern Peru but they can probably be found in Brazil and maybe Columbia!

Never kept one but the adviceI have picked up so far is don't keep them with smaller fish or larger aggresive fish. They need large tanks as they can get big, they are reported to be touchy to acclimate, nothing reported on required water hardness but temp. between 75 and 82 degrees F., and ph of 6.8-7.2. The main thing that I see emphasised is that they need a very high O2 level and a strong consistent current as well as great filteration. Good luck, they look like great fish.
