Not sure if many of you have heard, but crenicichla has finally been split.
Hemeraria, saxatiliia, lugubria, wallaciia have so far come out of the split. There was also the description of teleocichla but I don't believe any of those species were ever described as crenicichla. I am not sure if it's going to get split further, but there are three main species groups left in crenicichla so far, being batrachops, lacustria, and of course, crenicichla. If the former two genera are split out from the genus, crenicichla itself will be left with one species.
