So you want to keep a RTC (Red Tailed Catfish)?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also am looking for first hand knowledge about a rtc's captive size, not just what people have heard of. I'm talking tank, not pond. This is mfk so someone has to have personal experience with a monster tank and a rtc.

My lfs in Phoenix had a rtc named Frankie. He was about 42" long when he outgrew his 10x5x6 tank. They donated him to a local zoo. I estimate he weighed about 50 lbs

I am sorry I don't have pictures but you can call them. They'll tell you all about Frankie. It called "the ocean floor" in Phoenix AZ

I'll take some up to date photos next time I visit the world wildlife zoo and aquarium. He's in a roughly 30'x12'hx20w' monster aquarium with giant aramatus, iridescent sharks, turtles and other Giants.

Been awhile since my last post. Works been busy. Just bought a juvi RTC at 3" for my 90. It's doing pretty well. I know they get big. When it gets crazy big I have a back up plan/tank already in place.

I've had a few over the years.
The 6 that died where
1. 91cm
2. 96cm
3. 101cm
4. 103cm
5. 109cm
6. 132cm

They ranged from 7 to 9 years in time that I owned them.

The Three I have now are about

90cm 10 years
100cm 10 years
117cm 8 years

The two smaller ones were only 3.8cm long when I got them while the larger 8 year owned one was 66cm when I got him.
