planning on re-plumbing my tank in the next couple of weeks and i know a couple of members here are probably using that kind of set up and i'm wondering if you guys have run into any problems with having to reduce the intake of your pump to match the box's 3/4" hole?

i'm thinking of drilling the box for 1-1/4" pipe/tubing. will be attaching a Jebao DCP-8000 to it and sealing the 3/4" hole on the box.

To be honest....I'd just skip the pond box. Just put bio-media in the sump, a pump, some filter socks, and let her run.

that's how its currently set up. 200 micron sock -> 45 ppi foam -> 30 ppi foam -> 15lbs of pumices, wrapped up like sushi rolls -> 30 ppi foam -> main pump and co2 reactor on a separate loop in the last "section"

(old pic, moss isnt in there anymore)

i don't have to worry about water bypassing the pumice? i initially wanted the box cuz the potential of water bypassing the pumice was bugging the hell out of me lol

I don't worry about it. I haven't had any problems for 2 years now.

I used pond boxes for a few months and used a hole saw to cut out a hole the same diameter as my pumps intake. I ended up removing them because of all the crud they accumulated....though i assume that crud is still being accumulated by my bio.

They dont hurt but arent a must have either
