I read in this forum that the tank must not extremely much bigger than the gar itself, or the risk of crashing themself into the glass, or so what you guys experience.
but question, what is the minimum for the tank not to small for them, and the maximum for them to not crash themself?

a 10-15cm gar, are 60x40 tank too big for them?

If a true gar I would recommend a longer aquarium than 60 cm. I had a 10 inch gar in a 72"×24"×24" aquarium never swam into the glass. Unfortunately jumped out of the aquarium.

well, Florida
I could guess that tank would not for the adult Florida gar.
for the young ones, will they fit or prefer more bigger (or smaller) one?

and is there an advice rule to measure if the tank is much bigger for the gar?

If you're gars aren't skittish your 60×40 will be fine as a growout for awhile.
